The Art of Shawn Artis

Award-winning visual artist Shawn Artis resides in Houston, Texas, where his practice centers on using visual storytelling to illuminate social and cultural issues shaping contemporary society. His body of work encourages dialogue and inspires solution-based thinking across diverse communities.

Over the past 15 years, Shawn has exhibited both nationally and internationally. His work has been displayed at several museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Houston Museum of African American Culture, the Lawndale Art Center, the Glassell School of Art, and the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum.

After a lifelong journey of channeling the pain of not knowing his biological origins into artistic expression, Shawn discovered his maternal family in 2019 and, two years later, connected with his paternal side in 2021. Now equipped with the blueprint of his beginnings, the art world eagerly anticipates what lies ahead for this electrifying creative force.
