LISETTE SCOTT
As a 2021 digital undivided fellow in 2021 Lisette Scott was always influenced by her culture with immigrant grandparents from islands of Jamaica and Puerto Rico. She was always curious about their upbringing and traditions that were formed from their homeland. The most prominent inspirations were food and music in her home. A little salsa and reggae with a mix of arroz con pollo, pastilles, jerk and curry were favorites and loves within her home. As an adult Lisette was able to travel to both islands where her fascination and love of her heritage grew even stronger. The colors, carnivals, art, beaches, and language all inspired me to create and design. Lisette created Jam + Rico (Jamaica and Puerto Rico) to dive deeper into her love of designing and the Caribbean. Lisette was a 2021 Natural Diamond Initiative x Lorraine Schwartz EDDI fellow and launched her first ever fine jewelry collection. She was also a recipient of the 2021 Ureeka x Google Power Up Grant, 2020 New Voices Grant and NYJW Here We Are Grant recipient in 2020. Currently Jam + Rico is a part of Target’s Black History Month Collection.
